    "Modeling Galactic Outflows with Petascale Simulations"

    Galactic outflows play a critical role in the formation and evolution of galaxies, as the expulsion of gas regulates the baryonic content of dwarf galaxies and likely explains the behavior of the faint end of the luminosity function. Using the CGOLS (Cholla Galactic OutfLow Simulations) suite of high-resolution isolated galaxy models, we examine how large-scale outflows from galaxies may develop from energy and momentum input on small scales.     Title: Black Hole Mergers in Dense Stellar Systems

     

    Abstract:

    I will present recent results on how binary black holes (BBHs)
    merge in dense stellar systems through chaotic few-body interactions.
    From taking into account GR effects in the equation-of-motion, I will show that dense stellar systems are likely to produce non-circular (eccentric) mergers in both LISA and LIGO with rates that are 10-100 times larger than all major groups recently have reported.     "Stellar Rejuvenation in Galactic Center and AGNs:  Analog of Planet Formation in Gravitational Wave Sources"

     

    The prevalence of massive black holes and nuclear stellar clusters implies some stars may be trapped in accretion disks around active galactic nuclei.  We determine the star trapping rate and we show that the trapped stars rapidly accrete gas which leads to a top heavy initial mass function similar to that found in the Galactic Center.
