Monica Gallegos-Garcia’s research aims to improve our understanding of binary evolution and the formation of gravitational wave sources. In her work, she incorporates a physics-focused and multi-messenger approach to the study of key stages in binary evolution, utilizing the stellar evolutionary code MESA and the binary population synthesis code POSYDON. She is interested in developing improved models for binary evolution and using observational clues from gravitational wave and electromagnetic sources to advance our understanding of the underlying mechanisms that lead to merging compact objects.

Monica received her PhD from Northwestern University and her bachelors degree from UC Santa Cruz.
