SUMMARY:Special ITC Colloquium - Rainer Weinberger (Heidelberg)
DESCRIPTION:
"Modeling feedback effects from active galactic nuclei in galaxy scale simulations"

	Video of talk:

Abstract: It is generally believed that feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) has a significant impact on the formation and evolution of massive galaxies, galaxy groups and clusters. In this talk, I will present our recent progress in modeling AGN feedback in cosmological simulations of galaxy formation. I will show its impact on the properties of simulated galaxies and galaxy clusters, and discuss how these might be tested by studying the galaxy as well as the supermassive black hole population across cosmic time.
I will then show how future feedback models, making use of state of the art algorithms and computational resources, can be made more predictive. In particular, I will present a high resolution study of AGN jets interacting with the surrounding intra-cluster medium and show how we can make use of idealized, high resolution simulations to understand the small-scale feedback physics and to develop more predictive sub-resolution models for future large-scale simulation projects.
