Late-time kilonovae and superluminal jet in neutron star merger

Abstract: The discovery of electromagnetic counterparts of the first GW
neutron star merger event, GW170817, has opened a new era of
gravitational-wave astronomy. The observed light curve and spectrum
of the GW170817 kilonova suggest that this merger produced a substantial
amount of r-process elements. One of the next challenges will be to identify
atomic signatures of heavy elements and to understand the origin of elements.
In this talk, I will discuss a modeling of late-time kilonovae, which contain the information
of atoms. I'll also talk about the superluminal jet in GW170817 resolved by VLBI.
This measurement allows us to put a strong constraint on the viewing angle and
therefore improves the Hubble constant measurement.
