"Galaxies Going Bananas: The Surprising 3D Geometry of High Redshift Dwarf Galaxies from JWST" I will present surprising observational results on the 3D geometry of high-redshift star-forming galaxies from the JWST Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science (CEERS) Survey. Using a differentiable Bayesian model with Hamiltonian Monte Carlo, I will show that there are many more flat, elongated dwarf galaxies than there are round, circular dwarf galaxies seen in projection at high redshift. This puzzle can be...
Daniel Eisenstein: High-redshift galaxies with JWST
Access to z>10 galaxies is being revolutionized by JWST, both with imaging and spectroscopy. Sources are reasonably plentiful and reveal a wide range of behaviors, but the uncertainties in the estimation of stellar mass and the possible role of AGN are severe. What will it really take to get to useful model constraints?
